COLOURS
Common colours of the Lykos at this stage of the breeding program

Please see the Lykos Breed Standard

From the Breed Standard:
Colour: Any shade of red, grey, sable/agouti or black with white. Dark masks must cover most of the face, in particular a darker bar down the middle of the face. White faces without mask are not desired unless the dog is mostly white or solid white. All colours should mimic naturally occurring true wolf colours.
Wolf Grey/White (Arctic Wolf) | Agouti (black/silver/cream) | Agouti (red/brown/black/white) |
---|---|---|
Mostly Black | Black/White | Solid White |
The Lykos Wolfalike comes in different colours, shades and patterns, with the most desired colour being agouti (i.e. sable) and wolf grey, which are common wolf and wolfdog coat colours. There are also solid black, mostly black, solid white, white/grey and occasionally black/white and copper/red and white.

Acceptable coat lengths are short, plush and long coat, with a double coat (outer coat with undercoat). Very short coats without double coats (i.e. 'mole' coat) are not accepted.

At this point in development while stablishing a solid genetic foundation, the Lykos breeding program focusses on developing the correct temperament, type and conformation over cosmetics.

Eye colours are typically brown, amber and gold, as found in wolves and wolfdogs. At this point in time, animals with blue eyes are acceptable if they are found have other positive traits to bring into the breed. It should be considered that blue is an eye colour derived from the Siberian Husky breed and not naturally found in wolves. Lykos Breeders do not selectively breed for blue eyes.
